Matadero is a cultural centre in Madrid on the site of the city’s former slaughterhouses. The architectural intervention establishes a subtle dialogue between the new and the obsolete, between history and memory, adapting the building for new agendas and uses such as galleries or an Intermedia centre.

Arturo Franco Díaz (Corunha, 1972.) Arquiteto pela Escola Politécnica de Madrid. Dedica-se à crítica arquitetónica, à docência e ao exercício profissional com a mesma intensidade. Foi crítico de arquitetura do jornal ABC, analisando o panorama da arquitetura contemporânea para publicações, orientando programas de rádio, debates, congressos e seminários sobre o presente e o futuro da arquitetura. Dirige, desde 2008, a revista da Ordem dos Arquitetos de Madrid. É professor associado do Departamento de Composição Arquitetónica na Escola Politécnica de Madrid. Enquanto arquiteto, a sua obra foi reconhecida com o primeiro prémio pela Câmara Municipal de Madrid e a Ordem de Arquitetos de Madrid, entre outros. As suas obras mais conhecidas incluem as diferentes intervenções no antigo Matadero de Madrid. A sua obra e textos foram amplamente publicados em revistas reconhecidas a nível internacional, como Domus, Arquitetura Ibérica, Diseño Interior, Detail, 2G e Arquitetura Viva, entre outras.
Arturo Franco Díaz (Corunna, 1972.) The holder of a degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic School of Madrid, he devotes himself equally to architecture, architectural criticism, and teaching. He was an architecture critic for the ABC newspaper, analyzing the situation of contemporary architecture for publications and supervising radio shows, debates, conferences and seminars on the present and future of architecture. He was the editor of the journal of the Madrid Architects’ Association and is an associate lecturer at the Department of Architectural Composition at the Polytechnic School of Madrid. As an architect, his work won the first award granted by the Madrid Town Council and the Madrid Architects’ Association, among others. His most famous works include the various interventions undertaken at the former slaughterhouse in Madrid. His work and texts have been widely published in internationally renowned magazines, including Domus, Arquitetura Ibérica, Diseño Interior, Detail, 2G and Arquitetura Viva.
